Terms of Service
Kehilla LLC Effective date: September 1, 2026 Last updated: September 1, 2026
Welcome to Kehilla. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Kehilla LLC ("Kehilla," "we," "us," or "our") governing your use of the Kehilla mobile application and the website at kehilla.app (together, the "Service").
Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Kehilla is a community directory and information platform serving the Jewish community of Los Angeles. The Service allows users to find and follow businesses, organizations, institutions, events, and community information, and allows businesses and organizations to create listings.
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
2.1 Age
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 13.
2.2 Your account
You are responsible for the information you provide, for keeping your login credentials secure, and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it current. Notify us at info@kehilla.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
2.3 Account standards
You agree that you will not:
(a) Provide false, inaccurate, or misleading information; (b) Impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation; (c) Harass, threaten, defame, or abuse any person; (d) Post content that is unlawful, fraudulent, obscene, or infringing; (e) Send unsolicited commercial messages, spam, or bulk solicitations through the Service; (f) Scrape, crawl, harvest, or extract data from the Service by automated means; (g) Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems; (h) Interfere with the operation of the Service or others' use of it; (i) Create multiple accounts to circumvent a suspension or termination; or (j) Use the Service for any purpose other than its intended purpose.
3. User Content
3.1 Your content
The Service allows you to submit content, including business profiles, descriptions, photographs, logos, event listings, posts, comments, and other materials ("User Content"). You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights you hold in your User Content.
3.2 License you grant
By submitting User Content, you grant Kehilla a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting and display), publish, publicly display, and distribute that User Content for the purpose of operating, promoting, and improving the Service. This license lasts as long as your User Content is on the Service and for a commercially reasonable period afterward to allow removal from backups and caches.
3.3 Your representations
You represent and warrant that, for all User Content you submit: you own it or have all rights necessary to grant the license above; it does not infringe or violate any third party's rights; it does not violate any law; and, where it includes a photograph or likeness of an identifiable person, you have that person's consent.
3.4 We do not pre-screen
We do not pre-screen User Content and are not obligated to. We may, but are not required to, review, monitor, remove, or disable access to any User Content at any time and for any reason.
3.5 No endorsement; no verification
User Content, including business listings, is created by users. We do not verify, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of any User Content, including any representation a business makes about its products, services, hours, affiliations, or certifications. You rely on User Content at your own risk. See Section 4 regarding kosher and other certifications.
4. Business Certifications and Reliance
Business listings may include representations about kosher certification, kosher supervision, religious affiliation, or other matters. Kehilla does not independently verify these representations and does not certify, supervise, or endorse any business. The presence of a business on the Service is not a certification of kashrut or of any other religious or quality standard.
If a matter of kosher status, religious observance, or certification is important to you, confirm it directly with the business and with the relevant certifying agency. Kehilla is not responsible for any reliance on a business's representations.
5. Business Listings
5.1 Purpose
The directory is curated for relevance to the Jewish community of Los Angeles.
5.2 Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for a listing, a business, organization, or institution must serve the Jewish community of Los Angeles. A listing serves that community where it offers goods, services, facilities, or activities that members of the community use, need, or seek out. This includes, without limitation, businesses and organizations that:
(a) Hold or operate under kosher certification from a recognized certifying agency; (b) Provide religious, ritual, educational, or lifecycle services, including synagogues, schools, mikvaot, chevra kadisha services, kashrut supervision, and religious instruction; (c) Sell, produce, or distribute Judaica, religious articles, Hebrew or Judaic books, or ritual items; (d) Provide goods or services connected to the observance of Jewish law or custom, including Shabbat and holiday accommodation, eruv services, and Passover-related goods and services; (e) Are Jewish communal, charitable, cultural, or membership organizations; (f) Provide venues, facilities, equipment, catering, or event services used for Jewish lifecycle events, communal gatherings, or holiday observance; (g) Operate in or serve neighborhoods with a substantial Jewish community presence and serve a meaningful number of community members in the ordinary course of business; or (h) Otherwise offer goods or services that we determine, in our editorial judgment, to be of relevance to the Jewish community of Los Angeles.
Eligibility is assessed based on the goods, services, facilities, or activities a listing offers and their relationship to the community the Service serves. It is not assessed based on the identity, religion, race, ethnicity, national origin, or other personal characteristics of any owner, officer, employee, or member of a business or organization. This standard is applied on the same terms to all applicants.
5.3 Editorial discretion
We exercise editorial judgment over the directory. We may decline, remove, suspend, or decline to renew any listing at our discretion, including where:
(a) The listing does not meet, or has ceased to meet, the eligibility criteria in Section 5.2; (b) The listing contains inaccurate, misleading, outdated, or unverifiable information; (c) The applicant or listing holder has misrepresented the nature of its business, its certifications, its affiliations, or its qualifications, including any misrepresentation regarding kashrut certification or supervision; (d) The listing holder has violated these Terms; (e) The listing holder has engaged in harassment, threats, abuse, or hostile conduct directed toward users of the Service, toward Kehilla, or toward members of the community the Service serves; (f) The listing duplicates an existing listing, or was created to circumvent these Terms; (g) The listing holder's account has been terminated under these Terms; or (h) Fees for the listing are unpaid.
We are not obligated to provide a reason for any decision under this Section, and any reason we provide is not exhaustive.
5.4 No guarantee of listing
Submitting an application, paying a fee, or having a prior listing does not entitle you to be listed or to remain listed. The Service is a curated directory.
5.5 Nondiscrimination
Kehilla does not decline, remove, or refuse listings on the basis of the religion, race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, medical condition, military or veteran status, disability, or genetic information of any owner, officer, employee, or member of a business or organization.
6. Paid Subscriptions
6.1 Plans
Paid business listings are offered on subscription plans described in the Service. Current plans and prices are shown before you purchase.
6.2 Billing through app stores
Subscriptions are billed through Apple In-App Purchase (iOS) or Google Play Billing (Android). Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account. Your subscription automatically renews for successive periods unless you cancel.
6.3 Cancellation
You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple or Google account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Because billing is handled by Apple and Google, their terms govern renewals, cancellations, and refunds, in addition to these Terms.
6.4 Price changes
We may change subscription prices. We will give notice of any price change, and the new price will apply to the next billing period after notice. If you do not agree, cancel before the change takes effect.
6.5 Removal and refunds
If we remove or decline to renew a paid listing:
(a) Where removal is for cause under Section 5.3(c) through (h), fees paid for the current billing period are forfeited and no refund is issued. (b) Where removal is under Section 5.3(a) or (b) and is not the result of the listing holder's conduct, we will refund the pro rata unused portion of the current billing period.
Refunds under this Section are the sole remedy for removal of a listing, and are separate from any refund handled by Apple or Google.
7. Copyright and DMCA
Kehilla responds to notices of alleged copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512. Our designated agent is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.
DMCA Agent — Kehilla LLC 1401 21st St, Ste R, Sacramento, CA 95811 Email: DMCA@kehilla.app
Our full Copyright Policy — including the required contents of a notice, the counter-notification procedure, and our repeat infringer policy — is at https://kehilla.app/dmca and is incorporated into these Terms.
We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances. In summary, content removed in response to a compliant DMCA notice results in a strike, and three strikes results in termination of the account and any associated listings; we may terminate sooner where circumstances warrant. Termination for repeat infringement does not entitle you to a refund of fees paid. You may not create a new account to circumvent a termination.
8. Prohibited Uses
In addition to the account standards in Section 2.3, you may not use the Service to violate any law, infringe any right, distribute malware, or engage in any activity that harms the Service, its users, or the community it serves. We may investigate and take appropriate action, including removing content, suspending or terminating accounts, and reporting to law enforcement.
9. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account or any listing at any time, with or without notice, for violation of these Terms or for any other reason in our discretion. You may terminate your account at any time in the app or by contacting info@kehilla.app.
On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive — including Sections 3.2, 4, 6.5, 7, and 10 through 14 — survive termination.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any User Content — including business listings, hours, contact information, certifications, or religious times — is accurate, current, or reliable. Location-based and religious-time features depend on third-party data and your device, and may contain errors. Do not rely solely on the Service for matters of religious observance; confirm important matters, including kosher status and candle-lighting and other zmanim, with an authoritative source.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kehilla and its members, officers, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising from or related to your use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) one hundred dollars ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Kehilla and its members, officers, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your User Content, your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any right of another.
13. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
14. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and our Privacy Policy and Copyright Policy are the entire agreement between you and Kehilla regarding the Service.
- Changes. We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by other reasonable means. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
